Description
The Laboratorio Urbano called “Ex-macello” is owned by the Municipality of Putignano The renovation of the former municipal slaughterhouse, a historic building built in the early 1900s, has been decommissioned for decades. The original layout of the building was articulated, on the ground floor, around a large central atrium, with a trapezoidal shape, on which the rooms on all four sides still overlook today.
The former slaughterhouse has been completely repurposed. Several rooms have been set up: a theater room, a theater laboratory, a music laboratory, a multimedia room, 7 guest rooms, kitchen and multifunction room, two rooms deposit, secretariat and services.
Adjacent to the northern elevation, there is a construction that has never been renovated and is in precarious conditions with an independent entrance on via Don Lorenzo Milani. The structure, built after the main building of the former slaughterhouse, presumably in the 1970s, was used to accommodate the purifiers and other machines serving the slaughterhouse itself, connected to it by an internal staircase currently walled up.
